Position Summary:
All the duties listed below occur in a 24/7 environment, therefore, as part of your professional obligation, working extended hours, holidays, varied hours or on-call duties may be required. Primary duties are:

Works as a member of teams providing technical support for client workstations and devices, including system installations and upgrades, and develops hardware and software recommendations. Communicates with the university community to assess customer needs.

Provides expert technical knowledge and advice to solve problems, including installation, testing, and evaluation of new software; monitoring; and support of systems. Recommends and implements appropriate changes to increase system security.

Provides consulting to faculty, students, and staff on a broad range of computer system techniques, applications, programming languages, and services.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in a technical field. At least three (3) years of technical experience in the computer field is mandatory, including:

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Experience implementing secure computing technologies and practices (anti-virus, firewalls, security policies, automated patching, group policy, file system permissions)
  • Ability to diagnose problems and perform preventive maintenance on personal computers, notebook computers, wireless devices, application software, operating systems and related peripheral devices
  • Experience with using Microsoft Active Directory to manage users, groups and computers
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating system installation and support procedures
  • Familiarity with Domain Name Service, TCP-IP, Network Services
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and other Microsoft Office productivity tools.
  • Must be able to work with wide variety of community members found in the University setting.
  • Personal initiative and self-discipline
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional presentation and the ability to interact with customers in a courteous manner
  • Strong technical aptitude and good analytical and organizational skills
  • The ability to troubleshoot computer software and hardware failures and to identify network problems
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft client operating systems (Windows XP, Windows 7)
  • Experience with workstation management and deployment tools ( Microsoft SCCM, Admin Studio, Symantec Ghost)
  • Familiarity with server operating systems (Windows 2003 & 2008)
  • Familiarity with Solaris, Linux, SQL Server is desirable
  • Experience developing management/monitoring scripts using Windows Powershell and/or VB script
  • Experience with Virtual Desktop technology
  • Experience in a university environment
Salary Range: $42,801-$43,000

FTE: 1.00
